Local yoga teacher Kym Coon has
released her first DVD titled Yoga With Kym -
Divine Yogic Techniques.
Kym,
who has lived in Wellington for nine years, has
also received her first big order for the mass-produced
DVD from Adyar bookstore in Sydney. As the longest
established metaphysical and alternative bookstore,
Kym is understandably ecstatic.
Starting
yoga in 2001 when she was on a trip to England,
Kym now teaches classes at the Chizen Mind-Body
studio in Dubbo and also teaches young adults
with special needs.
"It's
my passion," Kym said.
"It's
not only a hobby, I love it. I don't want to do
anything else."
The
80-minute yoga workout includes the benefits of
yoga and sequences to improve strength, posture
and allow a new energy to flow through the body.
There
is also a bonus meditation CD that runs for 32
minutes, and encompasses Yoga Nidra, which is
a systematic method of inducing complete relaxation.
Already
being sold in Sydney, Bathurst, Dubbo and Wellington,
Kym has high hopes to go global with her DVD.
"I'm
doing it because I want to be all I can be, move
forward and challenge myself," she said.
In
addition to starring in the DVD, Kym also scripted,
produced and designed the cover.
"It's
such a feel good thing," she said.
With
a husband and two kids, Kym felt her idea was
too out of reach, but it stuck in the back of
her mind for two years until she decided to "pull
a rabbit out of a hat" and put her dream
into practice.
"You
have to have a dream, you have to be passionate
about something," she said.
"Once
I made the commitment to myself I wasn't going
to do it half-heartedly. I put my heart and soul
into it."
Describing
herself as a strict yogi, Kym said it is a means
to feel good for yourself and she has a deep respect
for the practice, which she finds "really
grounding."
"It
is based on the philosophy of simple living and
high thinking," she said.
"It's
not about materialism, it's about relaxation."
Filmed by Errol Tasker Productions at Camelot
Lodge near Bathurst, the DVD took six weeks to
put together.
