Bondi Radio. The Bucket List. Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia

The Media Man Group continues to ramp up its media campaigns, primarily on the east coast of Australia.

Why the east coast? The Media Man crew have lived and worked in the region for the majority of their careers. By default most of the Australian campaigns have an association with this beautiful part of the world.

A personal tale of living and working around Sydney's beautiful beaches..

I myself grew up primarily at Newport Beach. I also enjoyed some working holidays at Palm Beach, Dee Why and Avalon. In 1996 I made the move to Sydney's eastern suburbs on the southern side of the Spit Bridge, as I joined Optus Vision / Optus Communications, to immerse myself in the world of the subscriber television industry, and Optus had opened their office at Rosebery, just to the side of Botany and Alexandria. I bought my first home at Pagewood, between the Optus office and the beautiful Maroubra Beach, which reminded me of the way Newport Beach (my original home beach) use to be. A few years later I moved closer to the beach and I still have fond memories of visiting the beach and park with my daughter.

I worked for Optus for 5 years and then joined the big guns at Telstra. After around 2 years at Telstra I became frustrated at not being promoted to more exciting and convergent media orientated aspects of the company so I took a business development and account management opportunity at ID Media, better known for its WaveCam website, which had some strong similarities to CoastalWatch. Just prior to this I started to develop my first personal website, Australian Sports Entertainment, which has gone through a number of exciting developments over the years. ID Media and WaveCam was a great few years, however in the early 2000's the tech wreck hit and ID Media was burning through a lot of money with not enough return on investment to sustain, so the director's wound up the company. I worked on some great personal tech and media projects and went on to study News Media and Journalism Cert III at Petersham TAFE. I continued to launch new websites, including the Media Man brand, as well as make frequent appearances on Australian radio and television, of which the old Channel 31 Community TV, later known as Channel 58 and TVS, helped me work much more closer with the major television networks including Channel Nine, Ten and Seven, with the occasional collaboration with the ABC. Many of the campaigns I worked on via the Media Man Group in the 2002 - 2010 period enjoyed strong cross media platform support, and Media Man continued to build upon its print and online news portfolio, which as also becoming global in nature thanks to our extreme sport, WWE, MMA, UFC and surf sport connections.

In the mid 2000's many of our campaigns were often centered in the Bondi Beach region, so we moved to Bondi and enjoyed Bondi living for many years. Down the track I was in touch with many of my Maroubra Beach friends and associates and one thing led to another, and we made Maroubra our home once again.

It was around 2005 when we started to really hit our straps in the sports management / personality management aspects of the media and publicity business with some great campaigns involving the likes of Colin Handley (stuntman), Ric Drasin (wrestler, actor and bodybuilder), Keith 'Bendigo' Sloan (poker player, trainer and promoter), Mario Milano (wrestler and promoter), Steve Rackman (wrestler, actor and promoter) and many others. We also immersed ourselves in the world of fundraising for film and television, with some great projects at Coherent Productions and Richard Bradley Productions, to name but a few. The eco media related projects with the likes of Dr. Bill Holland, Newport's Tom Carroll, Earth Hour, Pittwater High School and Whaledreamers were also major highlights. Some of the film projects achieved cross promotion via community television and the majors, and most got print coverage and some even statewide and national radio coverage. Of course, the nature of cross media promotion had developed greatly over the years with most companies having strong internet presence, and then social media came along which really changed the game.

In early 2015 a fantastic technology and media opportunity arose for us in Alice Springs, NT - the outback of Australia of all places. The overall package was worthwhile, so we took on the challenge. Social media has been disrupting the mainstream media and advertising industry and it became no longer essential to live in Sydney. I did a lot of project management and data management for a major Alice Springs based transport company. After about a month in The Alice, on one of my visits to a local cafe - The Red Dog Cafe, the locals told me about a new newspaper and media company that was going to get a presence in Alice Springs and the surrounding areas. Before you knew it, after a meeting at DoubleTree by Hilton Alice Springs, I was working for APN, and specifically, Rural Weekly. I enjoyed a great run there. When the day finished for Rural Weekly, I did some work for the transport company and also managed some Media Man projects. The days were very full, but predominantly good. Great discoveries of mine in the outback included Lasseters Casino, Lasseters Health Club, Araluen Arts Centre, Ellery Creek Big Hole, Outback Cycling and Alice Springs Cinema. Long story short, after about 12 months in Outback Australia, I missed the eastern beaches too much and returned.

We are back to running the Media Man Group operation from the eastern beaches office. It's no coincidence that many of our campaigns have a connection with Sydney's beaches, sport, technology or lifestyle.

I'm blessed to enjoy good relationship with so many great companies and people in Australia, and fortunately over the years the Media Man Group has got to enjoy great dealings with some big media firms which has made our business stronger. Many thanks to Southern Courier, Wentworth Courier, The Manly Daily, The Sydney Morning Herald (who I once worked for in the advertising department), the AFR, Daily Telegraph and the ABC. On a local level, always good to deal with our friends over at Maroubra Community, Heartlands Of The Eastern Suburbs and The Beast. Over the past year or so The Daily Telegraph and Fin Review have been running with more of our stories and pitches, and not so much with Fairfax Media. I know The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age lost a lot of good staff members, so when the SMH lost staff we lost a few contacts. Due to our in person attendance to a number of media conferences and forums in Sydney by default we became more closer aligned to Daily Telegraph and News.com.au

We've been in the biz for a long time and have had a lot more hits than misses. Here's hoping you enjoyed this media and community banter today, and if you think we may be able to assist you or friend / associate with a campaign, please Contact Us today. If not, no problem, and keep enjoying our articles and coverage online, and with no pop up advertising.

Thanks for stopping by on the Media Man Group network of websites... out of the billions or trillions of other websites out there you chose us, so thank you.
