Business Networking. Meeting up with Mark Fennessy (Shine Australia)

Networking can be an important aspect of being in business.

If your experiences are anything like ours, you've likely had a mixed experience.

Over the years we've even been referenced in a few mainstream news article about being well networked, with slogans attached such as 'It's not what you know, it's who you know', and so on - I believe it's a combination of what you know and who you know, just to clarify that point.

We're ran networking groups and this have varied from brilliant to not. From dozens of people turning up, to a golden donut (Zero). Still, it's also about quality, not quantity.

If I want numbers only, I will go to a blockchain or bitcoin meeting in the Sydney CBD and work a room of hundreds of people.

Word of mouth remains the best form of business marketing most of the time, and of course repeat business from happy clients, of which we have many.

Internet networking and social media elements also fall into the equation, with referrals being able to be made, and don't forget the good old fashioned testimonials - references.

Organic search engine results are also great for business and I believe much more credible than paid listings, be it via Facebook Ads, Google Advertising, DoubleClick or other.

Business networking is a mixed bag, but you have to be in it to win it, as the cliché goes.

Having been in business since 2001, in and around the media, advertising, sports and project management business no less, I think we're as good as qualified to comment on these matters as anyone - probably more so you might say.
