that go against the received wisdom are becoming an endangered species, at the
very time we need them, perhaps more than ever.
At
a time of an information onslaught, the critical differences between fact and
fiction are blurred. Documentary films are a powerful way to make sense of these
competing voices and ideas.
Acclaimed
documentary filmmaker, journalist and author John Pilger has selected 26 landmark
documentary films of the past seven decades, to be screened at the MCA and Riverside
Theatres, Parramatta, from Wednesday 28 November to Sunday 9 December 2018.
The selection includes a rare retrospective of some of John Pilger's own work. John
Pilger is renowned for his independent investigative journalism that gives “voice
to the voiceless” and calls power to account. The films he has chosen beckon
us to look behind facades and question mainstream media. The festival will feature
Q&As with filmmakers as well as an opening address by Pilger on why we need
genuine critical debate. Download
