Virgin Unite / Virgin Group

In 2004 we founded the non-profit foundation Virgin Unite to unite people and entrepreneurial ideas to create opportunities for a better world. Since then, together with some great partners, we have inspired and incubated a number of wonderful collaborations – like The Elders, Ocean Unite, Carbon War Room, The B Team and The Branson Centre for Entrepreneurship – which have spurred much needed change in the world.

I now spend the majority of my time working with Virgin Unite to make a positive difference in the world. From supporting projects that I’m passionate about, such as being an advocate for LGBT rights, drug policy reform and giving ex-offenders a second chance to using my voice and that of the Virgin Group to shine a spotlight on issues that I believe are unacceptable, such as climate change and the death penalty.

I am incredible proud of what Virgin Unite have achieved and thank you for your continued support of Virgin Unite. I truly believe that working together we can turn challenges into opportunities, allowing us to always push boundaries to make business and the world better.

As with all donations to Virgin Unite, your financial support goes a long way. Virgin Unite’s overheads are covered by myself and the Virgin Group, meaning that 100 per cent of all donations received go directly to initiatives we create or support.

OneWave Is All It Takes. Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia

It doesn't matter whether you're riding a wave for the first time or the hundredth time…you never forget the feeling of being on a wave, letting everything go with a massive smile on your face. OneWave is all it takes... To free the funk. To give you hope.

OneWave holds weekly Fluro Friday sunrise sessions at beaches around the world to raise awareness for mental health. We dress up in the brightest outfits possible and surf/swim/do yoga. Fluro makes people smile and it gets people asking important questions, which are normally avoided about mental health. Everyone is welcome and it is a free event.

Fluro Friday's are started by everyday people at beaches all around the world. Check out the Fluro Friday page for all the beaches currently getting fluro on Friday's. With your help we can reduce the stigma and help people free the funk in your local community. If you would like to start a Fluro Friday at your local beach we would be beyond stoked.

People's Choice Award: OzHarvest

OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, collecting quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivering it directly to more than 1000 charities supporting people in need across the country.

Founded in 2004 by Ronni Kahn, after noticing the huge volume of good food going to waste from the hospitality industry, she decided there had to be a better way. Starting in Sydney with one van – the first of many donations from Goodman+ Foundation – she delivered 4,000 meals in the first month.

OzHarvest now operates nationally, rescuing over 100 tonnes of food each week from over 3,000 food donors including supermarkets, hotels, airports, wholesalers, farmers, corporate events, catering companies, shopping centres, delis, cafes, restaurants, film and TV shoots and boardrooms.

Education is crucial to our business to help enable positive change for vulnerable people. Check out OzHarvest’s education programs, NEST and Nourish.

We recently opened Australia’s first rescued food supermarket – the OzHarvest Market in Sydney, based on a ‘take what you need, give if you can’ philosophy. And look out for our new OzHarvest Food Truck, available for corporate, community and private functions and helping feed communities in need around Sydney. (OzHarvest)
