John
Cena (top) wrestles Triple H at Wrestlemania 22.
by
Anthony Colangelo
Rob
Lowe, Mr Bean (aka Rowan Atkinson), The Rock (aka
Dwayne Johnson), the Dalai Lama and Usain Bolt - they've
all been high profile guests of the Collingwood Football
Club (or have at least been photographed holding the
Magpies' famous black and white stripes).
Well,
the Pies look set to add another name to that list.
Fairfax
Media understands WWE wrestling superstar John Cena
will attend the Collingwood president's lunch at the
MCG on July 8, as a guest of the Pies, before Collingwood's
clash with Essendon.
The
13-time WWE Championship winner, actor, philanthropist
and one of the biggest stars in the history of professional
wrestling will attend the lunch while he is in Australia
for the "An Evening with John Cena" speaking
tour, hosted by Karl Stefanovic.

Cena
is not scheduled to speak at the president's lunch
and it is unknown whether he would be involved in
any activities or media appearances with the playing
group.
The
wrester - known for his signature move "the Attitude
Adjustment" - is being brought to Australia and
the Collingwood-Essendon game by Fast Track Events,
the same company that brought actor, stuntman and
martial artist Scott Adkins to our shores earlier
this month.
Adkins
was a guest of the Melbourne Football Club at the
Queen's Birthday clash where he also met McGuire.
Cena's
whirlwind tour of Australia will see him arrive on
July 7 and then leave in time to be back for WWE action
in the US on July 11.
The
speaking event hosted by Channel 9 personality Stefanovic
will take place at the Plenary at the Melbourne Convention
and Exhibition Centre and at The Star in Sydney and
the Gold Coast.
His
latest movie which is still in the process of being
shot is Daddy's Home 2 with Will Ferrell, Mel Gibson
and Mark Wahlberg.
Cena's
presence as a guest of Collingwood is not a first
celebrity foray for the club.
Collingwood
have regularly had celebrities and high profile visitors
to Australia associated with them during McGuire's
reign as president.
In
2003 American actor Rob Lowe - known for his roles
in The West Wing, Thursday's Child and Brothers &
Sisters - joined Collingwood in the huddle to sing
the team song after their win over St Kilda at Etihad
Stadium.
Then
in 2004 action movie hero and WWE superstar The Rock
met Collingwood players and coaches at the Westpac
Centre. He received a Collingwood jersey, a ball and
posed in the black and white stripes for the cameras.
But
they weren't to be outdone by Mr Bean (aka Rowan Atkinson),
who in 2007 joked his way around the Westpac Centre
with players and coaches.
In
2011 then-Pies defender Heritier Lumumba met the Dalai
Lama in Melbourne and handed him a personalised Collingwood
jersey and a Sherrin.
McGuire
wasn't to be shown up by O'Brien though. In 2012 while
in Oslo, Norway McGuire presented Olympic legend sprinter
and fastest man in the world Usain Bolt with a Collingwood
jersey.
Bolt
has since posed in a West Coast and Richmond jersey
on separate visits to Australia.
