Interview - Dan Bidondi

Interview: Dan Bidondi, Professional Wrestler: 21th July 2004

What's your background?

I wrestled in Jr and Sr high school winning many amature championships, state championships ect. I was also honorary captain in both jr and sr years. I was also a 2 time powerlifting champion and overall champion in high school.

How did you get your break in pro wrestling?

That weekend right after my state championship in high school wrestling I stumbled upon a few promoters advertising for a Yankee Pro Wrestling show in Newbedford, MA I then asked them how to become a wrestler and they gave me the info I needed, and I went to their school and 2 weeks later I make my pro debute.

Why is a solid background in amateur wrestling so important?

amature wrestling has gave me an incredible edge going into the pros, amature wrestling teaches you self disipline, gives you increble stamina, endurance, and great body shape, and your already used to wrestling in front of hundreds or thousands of people. it just makes the pro training alot easier when your in shape and already know how to wrestle, thats why it only took me less than 2 weeks to get into the ring in my first pro match.

Who have been your influences?

i grew up watching Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Ric Flair which i would have to say made my mind up when i was 3 or 4 of what i wanted to be, and i also had a great deal of influence by watching Micheal Jordan, even though he was a basket ball star, he showed me that hard work and determination and a will not to give up will get you far in life.

Explain your training programme?

training program consist of lots of endurance training, heavy lifting and targeting the body parts that you need in wrestler which is everyone of them. its a lot of man hours in the gym, i attend the gym mon through fri and take the weekends off for recovery. i also tan and do conditioning training to keep my wind, cus theirs no use being all big and strong if you cant last more than 5 min without blowing up. another bases of my training is wrestling practice and lots and lots of prayers and faith in God that I can excede and step to the next level.

What have been the highlights of your career?

winning 16 pro championships, just a company having faith in you that you can carry them representing them as one of their champions is to me a great accomplishment and a high honor plus a child hood dream to walk into the ring as a champion being the best you can be at your sport.

What are a few funny stories from the road?

I wouldn't know were to begin, one story is after a yankee show, we went out to this club with the bushwakers and they tore that joint up, running around licking each other and everyone. another we were on the road the entire summer of 2000, every night we used to eat in bickfords or werever after the show and just the guys being themselfs was to hiliarious, its basicaly you would have to be their to know. another is getting in trouble at a hotel by the security cus they thought it was a riot going on in the pool, it was another yankee show with Greg Valentine and we all were in the pool choping each other and going at it, like a battle royal in the pool.

What inspires you?

God, and my spirit not to give up and to one day accomplish a childhood dream of being in the wwe. my friends and familys and fellow wrestlers support help me and the people who doubt me and hate on me realy fuel the fire, with their negativity makes me try harder and raise the bar to new heights, I turn my weakneses to my strenths, and a incomprible will to be the best.

How do you maintain balance in your life?

its hard but i maintain it spiritualy and phyically, i trust in God with everything and have complete faith in God and myself that i can accomplish what i set out to do and the rest trickles down to everything else in my life which keeps a perfect balance.

How does the Internet assist you?

internet is great, i meet great people like you Greg, and it expands the horizons of getting booked at diferent shows and allows people to see who you are looking at websites and watching videos.

What parts of the world has the wrestling taken you?

So far just here in the united states, but all over the east coast and further west.

What's your view on drugs in sport?

Drugs in sports far as supliments and some steriods go, i think taken corectly is good and should be allowed but when people start abusing them its another thing. far as dumb drugs such as weed, acid, or xstacy that is just plain out dumb you can hurt yourself or someone else being in that state of mind while wrestling.

What injuries have you suffered, and how do you bounce back from them?

So far knock on wood have had only my knee come outa place for a sec once and a mild concusion other than that i have been fine.

What media coverage have you received to date?

T was on MTV, ESPN, and a lot of local chanels and newspapers.

What's you motto?

Never give up.

What are your current projects?

Current projects are working on getting to the WWE.

How has your contact with the WWE been going?

I talked with tom prichard and lita and they both told me what i need to do and so far i am making all the sacrifices and doing what i have to do to make it.

What do you do to relax?

think about one day being succesful of what i do and lots of prayers of course

What sacrifices did you make in your life to one day become a wrestler and hopefully someday a WWE star?

i devoted my entire life to wrestling, i have passed up many great careers because it conflicted with my wrestling schedule, I passed up being a state police officer, prison guard, city police officer on many occasions, a comercial pilot, a station supervisor for delta airlines, american airlines and cape air. I also lost so many girlfriends and broke engagements with woman because they wanted me to quit wrestling and get another career, i sacrafice most of my social life being in the gym and training and trying to be a better wrestler.

What are your dreams your goals in your life and wrestling?

Simple, the same it has been since i was 4 years old is to be a WWE superstar and win a championship in a wrestlemania and i will do whatever i have to do and whatever sacrafices i need to make to accomplish that goal.

...end.

Editors note: This guy is going straight to the top. Take it from me, Dan's 90% there.
