Flavia Fayet

BIOGRAPHY
for Flavia Fayet, BSc.(Honours), MNutrDiet, APD, PhD
Candidate
Flavia
Fayet was born and raised in Brazil until the age
of 10. Her family then moved to Canada where she remained
until the age of 23, and completed her Honours Bachelor
of Science in nutritional sciences at the University
of Toronto in Canada. Because she moved while young,
she learnt how to adapt to different situations and
people very easily and continued to seek for a challenge
on the other side of the world. She then packed her
bags and moved on her own to Australia to become a
dietitian and completed her Masters of Nutrition and
Dietetics at the University of Sydney. Flavia loves
Australia and has incorporated herself into the Australian
lifestyle very well. She describes Australia as the
best of Brazil and Canada in one!
She
is currently working on a PhD in nutrition and works
part-time consulting and giving nutrition lectures
and seminars for a company she founded called "Nutriesca"
(latin for Nutri- nutritious and Esca- bait or food,
so nutritious food/bait to get people into eating
well! www.nutriesca.com.au
). She tutors AusAid students, demonstrates for second
year food science at the university and is the dietitian
for the Sydney University G.E.T. Flames Basketball
team. She still manages time to consult for The Australian
Floorball League, RioLife; has a health column in
Viva Magazine and in the university student's union
paper (The Bull) regarding nutrition issues affecting
students. Her passion includes not only studying and
research, but translating that to the general public,
because she believes that through the media and with
adequate planning and resources, she can change the
lives many more individuals rather than one-on-one
consultations.
Flavia
has competed nationally in Canada and Brazil in swimming
and squash and truly incorporates physical activity
into her lifestyle. She's always had a passion for
adventure and pushing her limits. Six years in the
Royal Canadian Air Cadets led her to develop great
leadership skills, discipline, self-motivation and
being able to adapt to different environments. She
competed in the rifle team at the University of Toronto,
for the Squash team, and obtained her pilot's license
while in the Air Cadets. Another reason for her decision
to going to Australia was to expand the adventurous
side she has. She became an advanced scuba diver prior
to arriving in Australia and now enjoys going camping
and diving with friends. She has also taken the opportunity
to encourage young women into playing sports by becoming
the University of Sydney Women's Squash Club President
and hopes to encourage more women into becoming active
and healthy.
Flavia
has a passion for helping individuals and a determination
that her life experiences and skills will lead her
into becoming a spokesperson and leader in preventive
medicine by lifestyle modification through exercise
and professional nutrition advice that everyone can
understand and incorporate into their daily routines!
Flavia
Fayet is a member of the Dietitian's Association of
Australia, Nutrition Society of Australia and the
Global Health Council.
