Playtech
Can Use Marvel Legends Too
CryptoLogic's branded games will have some serious
competition
March
3, 2009 (InfoPowa News) -- In a surprise move,
online gambling software and games developer Playtech
plc has signed a licensing agreement with Marvel
Entertainment Inc. allowing it to include Marvel
film properties such as The Incredible Hulk and
the Fantastic Four in its branded games inventory.
The
achievement means significant competition for
fellow software developer CryptoLogic, which signed
an agreement to use the same Marvel characters
in its games last year.
The
exclusive multi-year licensing agreement with
Marvel Characters B.V., a wholly owned subsidiary
of Marvel Entertainment, Inc., allows Playtech
to use Marvel's motion picture brands, giving
it the right to use iconic Marvel film brand legends
such as "The Incredible Hulk", "Fantastic
Four", "X-Men", "Iron Man"
and "Blade", amongst others.
Playtech
will be able to use these brands across all of
its gaming products including casino, poker, bingo
and on all of its platforms, online, mobile and
T.V. platforms, as well as on server-based gaming
terminals, via the Playtech subsidiary, Videobet.
Mor
Weizer, Chief Executive Officer of Playtech, commented:
"This agreement is a major stepping stone
for Playtech, as it will greatly extend the commercial
appeal and cross-selling opportunities of our
products. Branded slots are a good way of diversifying
our product and attracting new players.
"Our
customers can now enjoy games with Playtech's
market leading software featuring up-to-date Marvel
film characters, which have a truly mass market
appeal. The proven strength of these brands will
allow our licensees to gain market share using
the strength of our product. We look forward to
working with such a globally renowned and respected
company as Marvel to provide an exciting gaming
experience for our customers and their players."

Playtech
Moves Further Into Cryptologic’s Territory:
Makes Marvel Deal - 6th March 2009
(Credit:

The
announcement this week that Playtech had signed
a licensing agreement with Marvel Entertainment
Inc. was perhaps as big a surprise as the powerful
online casino software firm snatching competitor
Cryptologic's biggest client, William Hill, right
out from under their noses. The new deal allows
Playtech to use Marvel film properties such as
The Incredible Hulk and the Fantastic Four in
its branded games inventory. Prior to this week,
Cryptologic had the exclusive rights to the Marvel
enterprise as so far as gaming goes.
Mor
Weizer, Chief Executive Officer of Playtech, commented:
"This agreement is a major stepping stone
for Playtech, as it will greatly extend the commercial
appeal and cross-selling opportunities of our
products. Branded slots are a good way of diversifying
our product and attracting new players.
"Our
customers can now enjoy games with Playtech's
market leading software featuring up-to-date Marvel
film characters, which have a truly mass market
appeal. The proven strength of these brands will
allow our licensees to gain market share using
the strength of our product. We look forward to
working with such a globally renowned and respected
company as Marvel to provide an exciting gaming
experience for our customers and their players."
Australian
Media Man,
Greg Tingle, told Gambling911.com: "It's
about time that the powers that be at Marvel ramped
up and added some healthy competition to the casinos
and operators looking to do business with Marvel
on the online casino side of things. "Playtech
have an overall excellent reputation and they
are doing business with a number of other casinos
that have great service that that we make money
with, so in the word's of Stan Lee, Excelsior!
... in Australian that translates to 'You beauty
mate". Can't wait to see Australia's own
Hugh Jackman come to life as Wolverine with Playtech.
Early indicators lead us to believe that the Marvel
- Playtech collaboration will be an Oscars award
winning match up."
For
Cryptologic, once considered among the most stable
of the online gambling entities, this is yet another
setback that has culminated in boardroom strife.
On
Wednesday, Cryptologic released a statement regarding
the purported requisition for an extraordinary
general meeting of the shareholders of CryptoLogic
submitted by Mr. Javaid Aziz on 18 February 2009.
CryptoLogic
received notification on 4 March 2009 from counsel
to Mr. Aziz that he "does not seek to rely
on" the purported requisition for an extraordinary
general meeting that the company received on 18
February 2009."
Aziz
had asserted that the Board of Management had
effectively squandered $4.2M of shareholder funds
in an abortive foreign exchange transaction.

online bingo site offering slightly different
graphics and websites to differentiate them. Some

Investor information
Playtech
was founded in 1999 by Teddy Sagi who realized
$295m from the IPO of Playtech. The United Kingdom
based company floated early in 2006 on the London
Stock Exchange under the symbol PTEC for approximately
£550m at a flotation price of 257p.
The company's current CEO is Mor Weizer.
After the passage of the SAFE Port Act the company's
stock suffered a one-day fall of over 40%. It
subsequently recovered the losses to stand at
near its 52-week peak in February 2007. The firm
has excluded all US players from its properties.
Playtech employs over 700 people in multiple countries.
On October 22nd, 2008 Playtech announced that
it would acquire private assets from Teddy Sagi
in return for $245m. This would be the second
liquidity event for Sagi from Playtech totaling
his proceeds to $540m in cash. Sagi also controls
41% of Playtech through his investment vehicle
Brickington. (Credit:

develops unified software platforms for the online
gambling industry, primarily targeting existing
online operators wanting to upgrade their system;
sportsbooks looking to diversify and land-based
operators making their online debut. Playtech
gaming applications - online Casino, Poker, Bingo,
Mobile Gaming, Live Gaming, Land-Based Kiosk networks
and Fixed-Odds games - are fully intercompatible
and can be freely incorporated as stand-alone
applications, accessed and funded by players through
the same user account and managed by the operator
by means of a single powerful management interface.
Founded in 1999, Playtech has over 550 personnel
distributed globally, around eighty percent of
whom are engaged in research and development of
current and future gaming technologies.
Playtech
is incorporated in the British Virgin Islands.
The group's head office is located in the Isle
of Man. Its main countries of operation consist
of Estonia, Bulgaria, the Philippines and Israel.
In
March 2006 the company floated on London’s
Alternative Investment Market (AIM) making it
the world’s largest publicly traded online
gaming software supplier. Investor interest in
the IPO on both sides of the Atlantic was a clear
endorsement of the company’s product offering,
business model, client base and future prospects.
The
success of Playtech’s initial offering -
Online Casino systems - led it to expand its range
of products and platforms to include Poker, Bingo,
Mobile Gaming, Fixed-Odds Games, Live Gaming and
Land-Based Kiosk Networks. Playtech's unified
platform gives added-value by allowing operators
to market different products to different player
types while enabling the players to login and
fund several gaming activities using a single
username-password combination, without needing
to open new accounts or repeatedly register the
same credit card for each activity.
A
unique selection of games has been specially designed
by Playtech to reflect the gaming habits and cultural
nuances of players from around the world, including
a range of progressive jackpot games featuring
big prize money and interactive, animated bonus
stages. Players can choose between online RNG
games or Live videostreamed gaming, where they
play opposite live dealers who they can see, chat
with and even tip in real-time. Mobile gaming
allows for real money online play via mobile devices
while land-based kiosk systems, featuring sleek
multimedia terminals and a brandable PrePaid Card
payment system, are also available.
All
Playtech’s products support multiple currencies
and are available in several European and Asian
languages, all expertly translated by native gaming
enthusiasts using local gambling parlance.
The
Playtech gaming platform can be fully integrated
with other existing software systems. Operators
can either migrate their entire player database,
with all essential user account information remaining
intact, or can run their existing software in
tandem with the Playtech system, using a number
of proprietary mechanisms that preserve database
homogeneity and dual-system synchronization.
Playtech
works closely with clients to identify the optimum
business solution for their operation. Operators
can choose to license the gaming software on its
own and handle all day-to-day aspects of the business
in-house, or can outsource certain services –
like hardware supply and maintenance, hosting,
technical assistance and 24*7 customer support
– to Playtech’s affiliated third-party
providers. Whatever business model the operator
chooses can be easily modified to match their
future needs.
Playtech’s
clients include successful online operators who
migrated their systems to the Playtech platform
like bet365, well-known brand name casinos like
Casino Tropez and Club Dice Casino and organizations
with deep land-based roots. Playtech’s current
focus is on Europe and Asia; in the UK, the company
has strengthened its foothold in the blossoming
sportsbook industry with such household names
as The Tote and Betfred.
