INTERACTIVE
IDOL - LEGION INTERACTIVE
The
jury may be out regarding the crowning of Norway's
Kurt Nilsen as 'World
Idol', however, one thing for sure is that Legion
Interactive is the television network's 'Idol' in
terms of interacting with their viewers. Legion is
the company that is top of mind when the big Australian
TV networks want to get interactive with their audiences.
The
success of TV shows such as World Idol confirm viewer's
eagerness to
embrace the interactive television experience and
the Australian company at
the forefront is Legion Interactive, Australia's leading
provider of
interactive communication services.
Australia's
intrigue with the Idol concept began with Australian
Idol,
Australia's largest interactive television event to
date culminating in 3.3
million people tuning in to see Guy Sebastian become
Australia's first Idol.
Legion played an integral role in ensuring Australian
Idol ran smoothly by
managing the entire voting process, incorporating
a short code SMS number
and 190 mass calling numbers on behalf of Network
Ten and Grundy Television.
Confirming
the fascination with the Idol franchise, World Idol
saw 100
million viewers tuning in to watch Idol winners from
11 countries competing
on a single stage for the title of World Idol. As
with Australian Idol, the
voting process utilised SMS and phone voting, however,
World Idol was based
on a point system where viewers from each country
voted for the ten
"foreigners." The system used for World
Idol ensured that less populous
countries were not disadvantaged and proved highly
successful with 2.5
million votes cast by SMS during the final weekend
in the UK alone.
As
television becomes increasingly innovative producers
are rapidly
enlisting the expertise of interactive communications
companies to
coordinate the technical components of their big ideas.
Legion's successful
handling of the voting processes for such large-scale
programs as Big
Brother and Australian Idol affirms Legion's position
as Australia's leading
provider of interactive communication services.
"While
television networks are among Legion's key clients,
our business has
an extensive range of products and services encompassing
a wide range of
marketing ideas incorporating email, the internet,
SMS and telephone that
can be applied to almost every business," said
David Burden, Legion
Interactive's Chief Executive Officer.
"Legion
is currently experiencing an amazing growth phase
which has paved
the way for the recent purchase of BlueSkyFrog, Australia's
largest mobile
content retailer, and the creation of LegionONE, the
business solutions arm
of our company. We are also working very hard to take
our model and put it
into the US where this sort of technology is a couple
of years behind ours.
Overall, it is an exciting time for us with consumers
and corporate
organisations alike embracing the new communication
technology Legion
provides and we are anticipating a very successful
year ahead," said David.
Legion
Interactive's clients include Fairfax, McDonald's,
Coca Cola,
MasterCard, Network TEN, The Seven Network and Foxtel.
