TNA
Wrestling launched in the summer of 2002 and has long
been known as the most innovative professional wrestling
company in the world. TNA is known for its high-risk,
action-packed X Division matches that have run with
one simple motto: Its not about weight limits,
its about no limits. Stars of the X Division
have included Chris Sabin, with a record 10 title
reigns; A.J. Styles, the first-ever champion; along
with Jay Lethal, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, Petey
Williams, Frankie Kazarian and Trey Miguel, among
others.
TNA
is also the home of the prestigious Knockouts Division,
widely regarded as the best womens division
in all professional wrestling. The Knockouts Division
features Trinity, Deonna Purrazzo, Mickie James, Jordynne
Grace, Gisele Shaw, Masha Slamovich, KiLynn King,
Jessicka and Courtney Rush, among others. Legendary
past Knockouts include Gail Kim, Awesome Kong, The
Beautiful People, Taya Valkyrie, ODB, Tara, Traci
Brooks and so many others.
At
the conclusion of Saturday nights Bound For
Glory pay-per-view, it was announced that Impact Wrestling
was reverting back to its former name, Total Nonstop
Action, next year. This obviously came as a massive
surprise to everyone watching, and now PWInsider.com
has reported the reasons for the change. One of these
was that the company wanted to unite its history,
and the others were that both international partners
and fans of the product that they surveyed preferred
the original name.
PWInsider.com
is told by Impact/TNA sources that the decision was
made for several reasons. One, it would unite
the fragmented history of the promotion, which at
different times was known as TNA, then Global Force
Wrestling, then finally Impact Wrestling. A secondary
factor in making the decision was that a number of
the companys international partners preferred
the TNA name and at times, were still using the name
internally. We are also told that the company also
quietly polled long-term fans of the promotion earlier
this year and learned that many of them stated they
preferred the TNA name.
TNA
was founded by Jeff Jarrett and his late father, Jerry,
in 2002 under the name NWA: Total Nonstop Action,
who took it from slightly above an independent promotion
to a globally recognized brand. Yet, after several
years of being seen as a small-scale competitor to
WWE, financial difficulties saw the promotion struggling
to survive. However, they were saved when Anthem Sports
& Entertainment purchased them in 2017 and renamed
the company Impact Wrestling. Shortly afterward, they
rebranded again to Global Force Wrestling following
a merger, although this was short-lived, and subsequently,
they reverted back to Impact Wrestling.
