From classical violinist to rockchick, Sophie Serafino
has more than one string to her bow. Now she adds
Black+White model to the list. The latest issue of
the edgy photography and culture magazine features
Serafino in a daring eight-page shoot. Photographer
Gino Nalini photographed Sophie in the Blue Mountains
and on Sydney's Balmoral Beach.
Sophie
will be in London from the 28th June to study with
Peter Takeno, head of Strings at the Guildhall School
of Music London, during the semester break from the
Sydney Conservatorium, where she is a student of Professor
Goetz Richter. Public performances will be announced
via her website- she will perform solo- dates to be
announced, and with her band including Lark in the
Park- Islington (21st July) and The Wilmington, London
(26th July).
Sophie
is in recording both with her new solo violin project,
and her band Violesque. Violesque sold out the Vanguard
last October, and recently packed it once again on
the 1st April. They will not perform again until late
2006, when they will present material from their forthcoming
album.
Sophie
will give a Public Recital on Wednesday 4th October
in the Recital Hall East of the Sydney Conservatorium
of Music. In the meantime she will concentrate on
study and take time to develop her unique style further.

Who
says solo violin rhymes with classical only? Sophie
Serafino is a violinist, and also a singer and songwriter,
with a unique blend of pop music. The style, which
evolved after years of experimentation with many styles,
has been described as entirely unique. Sophie mixes
world music sounds with funk, pop and classically
inspired strings. Sophie performs with her 7-piece
band Violesque, and her pop solo violin act. A student
of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, she also performs
classically on occasion. Sophie and her band have
performed in Sydney and Melbourne selling out some
of the best venues around including the Vanguard and
the Metro in Sydney. Her solo violin act has been
described as "cutting edge virtuoso- pop violinist:
a sophisticated performer". Performing her own
arrangements of the classics and her own original
compositions, there is nothing out there on the market
that looks, sounds and moves like Sophie. Her solo
act has taken her to high profile events from Sydney
charity events to corporate launches including the
Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation at the Stamford
Plaza Hotel Double Bay 2003, Make A Wish Foundation
Dinner Double Bay 2003, and The Georg Jensen Master
Diamond Collection Launch Melbourne 2005. After her
first four recordings, including Colliding Worlds
(MGM 2004), Sophie is now in recording with her band
Violesque and is also preparing to launch her first
solo violin album, so keep your eye out for news and
previews.
