Melbourne police waste no time in catching Potter
assailants
The InfoPowa report on the assault
and robbery against Aussie Millions poker player
Jason Potter recently had a sequel this week when
Melbourne police announced the apprehension of
two men allegedly responsible for the crime.
Dwayne
Johnstone (32) is facing five charges including
armed robbery, assault and drug possession. Vhyharn
Arumughasamy (26) is being charged with one count
of armed robbery.
The duo did not apply for bail, and Magistrate
Sarah Dawes ordered them to trial in the Melbourne
Magistrates Court in March.
22
year old Jason Potter was subjected to a violent
and unprovoked attack as he was walking back to
his hotel after cashing in his chips at the Crown
Casino on January 21 (see previous InfoPowa report).
The young Oklahoma player had placed 31st in a
field of 780 players in the Aussie Millions Poker
Championship to earn more than $31 000. He was
carrying that money in American and Australian
banknotes when he was robbed.
According
to the Victoria Herald Sun, Jason was hit from
behind while walking on Spencer Street Bridge
in Melbourne at 4:30 a.m. His attackers were armed
with knives and grabbed the money from his front
sweatshirt pocket.
Melbourne
detectives executed two search warrants on Thursday
in connection with the case and arrested Johnstone
and Arumughasamy on the following day.
