JEFF Horns big win in New Zealand last Saturday
night ushered in a huge month for Australian boxers.
Horn,
Brisbanes world No. 10 welterweight, took a
seventh-round technical decision over Ukraines
Viktor Plotnikov in Invercargill to climb further
up the ladder that leads to world champ Floyd Mayweather
as other Australian fighters now rev up for major
bouts.
On
August 14 Channel 9 will televise a Jeff Fenech promotion
from Melbourne that will feature world No. 3 heavyweight
Lucas Browne against Argentinas Gonzalo Omar
Basile and world-class lightweight Will Tomlinson
facing Filipino Adones Aguelo.

Lucas
Browne.
Five
days later former world champ Danny Green, still feisty
at 42, returns to the ring in Melbourne against Slovakian
Tamas Kovacs, who has 25 wins in 26 starts. The card
also sees hot Sydney prospect Jack Brubaker tackling
Chinas Yang Xing Xin for the WBC Youth World
welterweight title.
Deception
Bays Jason Cooper, the No. 14 contender for
the WBA super-bantamweight title, faces Marco Demecillo
of the Philippines at the Mansfield Tavern on August
29. Cooper has 14 wins in 17 fights and is looking
for a seventh consecutive victory.
On
the same card Brisbanes Miles Zalewski defends
his Australian lightweight title against Melbournes
Andrew Wallace.

the same venue this Friday night, emerging promoter
Steve Wijangco, who fought at the Mansfield Tavern
nine times as a crowd-pleasing welterweight, stages
another card topped by young heavyweight Demsey (Demsey)
McKean against Moses Havea.
On
Saturday night at the North Sydney Rugby League Club,
Queenslanders Faris Chevalier and Joel Casey both
fight for Australian titles while at the Gold Coast
Turf Club James Porter fights Kurtis Pegoraro for
the Queensland cruiserweight crown.
Queenslands
best amateur fighters will be competing in the huge
Golden Gloves event at the Acacia Ridge Hotel on August
20-23.
