As he is quick to remind allies and foes alike, Cesaro is unquestionably “The King of Swing.”

A onetime European rugby star who was banned from league play due to excessive aggression, Cesaro applied his mercilessness in the ring, honing his skills not just in Europe but around the entire world. Upon landing in the United States, he developed a cult following exhibiting his vicious skills in tag team and singles competition alike.

But this brutally innovative grappler is not all brawn. The cultured Cesaro speaks five languages, allowing him to adapt to his surroundings while traveling the globe en route to WWE.

Cesaro backed up his multilingual smack talk with a string of big victories on SmackDown leading up to his title-winning stunner at the 2012 SummerSlam Pre-Show. By ending Santino Marella’s five-month United States Championship reign, Cesaro put the entire WWE Universe on notice that he’s one of WWE’s fastest-rising young Superstars. He held the U.S. Title for an incredible 239 days before losing it to Kofi Kingston in April 2013.

Despite the loss, Cesaro’s no-nonsense style won over its fair share of admirers, including radical manager Zeb Colter, who recruited Cesaro and paired him alongside Jack Swagger as The Real Americans. Together, The Real Americans found success in the tag team ranks until a miscommunication and subsequent loss in a WWE Tag Team Title Match on the WrestleMania 30 Pre-Show caused an irreparable fissure. Swagger’s night ended with a ride in the Cesaro Swing, and the next night on Raw, Cesaro dropped Colter as his manager and revealed himself to be a “Paul Heyman Guy.” With Colter in disbelief, Heyman quickly labeled his new charge “The King of Swing.”

On the April 21 edition of Raw, Swagger saw to it that Cesaro didn’t advance to the finals of the Intercontinental Championship No. 1 Contender’s Tournament. While facing Rob Van Dam in the semi-finals, Cesaro was ambushed by his former tag team partner, leading to a count-out loss. Following the match, “The Swiss Superman” got even more bad news when RVD cautioned him to be wary of his new advocate.

Cesaro cast his doubts aside after Heyman admitted to lying only when it’s in the best interest of his clients. He then made Heyman proud by repaying Swagger with a one-on-one victory over his former brother-in-arms on the April 28 edition of Raw. Cesaro additionally asserted himself that night when he distracted Van Dam during RVD’s tournament finals against Bad News Barrett.

Now that all three Superstars have an ax to grind, Cesaro, Swagger and RVD will face off at Extreme Rules in a Triple Threat Match.

Regardless, with one of the ring’s premier strategists now in his corner, there’s no telling how far “The King of Swing” will go. (WWE.com)
