Parade, Maroubra (number 882) is the new home to possibly
the funky-ist and more ambient retail shop that Maroubra
has ever seen.
If
you didn't know you were in Maroubra, you might otherwise
suspect you had landed in Byron Bay or even Amsterdam.
Owner
Rob advises that dozens customers and passer-bys compliment
him on how bright, colourful and feel-good his shop
is, with plenty of stuff they loved, lost and have
found again.
Funky
Junk stocks heaps of funky fashion, for guys and girls.
Great if you want to stand out or have a 60s, 70s
or 80s party to go to. Rob either makes or sources
these items himself. They also have quality bric-a-brac,
jewelry, retro items, restored and recycled furniture,
and even a few items that one would consider collectible.
Rob
said that many Maroubra based fashionistas and coming
out of the woodwork, and that he's even getting customers
coming in from far away based on rave reviews.
"I've
been told we're getting a few buyers and fashion savvy
types coming in from Bondi Beach and Newtown, thanks
to some great word of mouth we have been getting.
Customers are very happy with the quality of our clothes
and other items, that are at the right price".
Funky
Junk is also soon acquiring an in-house tarot card
reader and local artist Lil Oen is also doing some
projects work, including art classes on Wednesdays,
for the funky outlet. Word is quite a few fashion
savvy local celebs are also frequenting the shop to
secure unusual and hard to find clothing and cool
stuff.
If
you have also popped into Rob's shop you already know
how cool and funky it is, and if you haven't, as Molly
Meldrum would say... "Do yourself a favour and
check it out". Yes, they have some music themed
products like a hard to find wind up record player
that plays metal records and music themed clothing
also.
When
you drop by Funky Junk mention Media Man also, as
Rob is tracking his media and marketing efforts, however
the word-of-mouth is likely to remain #1 for the foreseeable
future.
