High
Stakes at the Right Time According to the Stars

Everyone
wants to strike it rich - the thought of striking
it rich at the casino, beating the pit bosses at their
own game is all the more alluring. The problem is
that most games at the casino are designed not to
help you win, but to help the casino win money. Obviously
this doesn't mean you can't win money. If there was
zero chance of the player winning, nobody would play
- the odds just aren't exactly stacked in your favour.
The
question, therefore, is how can you increase your
chances of winning and minimise the house edge in
your favourite casino game? Some people will tell
you that you need practice - that there's a skill
to playing roulette that can only be gained through
hours of practice. To some degree this is true; it's
only through practice that you will learn the admittedly
complicated betting systems behind the Devil's game.
Other people will tell you that you need to find the
right wheel - that some wheels are intentionally biased
towards landing on certain numbers. Again, to some
degree this is true; certain wheels have been famously
proven biased in the past. Either way, the main thing
that decides whether or not you walk away with the
big bucks at the end of a spin is luck.
Luck,
unfortunately, is entirely subjective when you think
about it. It can't be realistically measured in any
meaningful way, but the notion that you are lucky
is often enough for the 'effects' of your luck to
feel almost tangible. The notion that you are somehow
luckier than the next person means that as far as
you're concerned, your odds and their odds are not
one and the same. So the question becomes this: how
can you improve your luck?
Over
the years there have been many different ways that
people have tried to influence their luck. Some people
prefer physical totems - horse shoes, four-leaf clovers,
even a favourite shirt and tie combo are all well-known
lucky items for the majority of casino-goers. There
is another things which many people bring them luck
which simply cannot be felt, touched or carried in
this way - the horoscope.
The
idea that your luck is defined by something as eternal
and unmoving as the stars is one which has comforted
people throughout history. You'll often find that
even if people don't believe that their personality
can be affected by the month they were born in, they
will seldom pass up a chance to read what the stars
have decreed for them this month. This being said,
there are plenty of people who do believe in horoscopes
and when it comes to luck, gamblers are a superstitious
bunch.
Ladbrokes
recently put together a blackjack horoscope, aimed
at helping people find their lucky numbers for 2016.
Those born under the sign of the Bull, for instance,
will have particular luck with the numbers 2, 5, 7,
10, 21 and 29 this year. Whether that's playing blackjack
on the 5th of February or the fact that getting 21
in blackjack is just inherently lucky is open to interpretation;
the 29 certainly isn't much luck if you bust out.
The thing about lucky numbers is that they carry over
between games, and in which game can you play all
six of these numbers in a single go? Roulette, of
course.
