Who
should WWE Champion CM Punk choose to face at Hell
in a Cell: John Cena or Ryback? - 9th October 2012
(Credit: WWE)

Behind
one cage door is John Cena a 10-time WWE Champion,
a veteran of this unforgiving match who will do whatever
it takes to reclaim the coveted title he hasnt
held in more than a year.
Behind
the other cage door is Ryback a snarling, ferocious
beast who has devoured every Superstar in his path
and just keeps demanding to be fed more and more.
Which
Hell in a Cell would you choose to step inside?
That
is the unenviable decision that CM Punk now faces
after Mr. McMahon issued an ultimatum to the WWE Champion
at the close of Monday night's Raw. For Punk, it comes
down to picking between the devil he knows or the
devil he doesn't have the slightest clue about. On
the surface alone, it seems like the choice should
be Cena, especially considering his recovery from
elbow surgery. But if you look closer, you'll realize
that it's not all that simple for The Straight Edge
Superstar.
WWE.com
is here to examine the pros and cons of both options
Punk has to choose from as Hell in a Cell looms just
weeks away. Which opponent he selects might make all
the difference between extending his impressive WWE
Title reign and losing the grip on his championship
gold completely ...
Even
if you believe that Cena will be fully recovered from
elbow surgery in time for Hell in a Cell and
there's a good chance he won't be history indicates
that this match could work in the WWE Champion's favor.
Punk and Cena have gone head-to-head more than 10
times dating back to 2009, but it's Punk who has come
out on the winning end of two of their most important
clashes for the WWE Title.
In
2011, The Straight Edge Superstar defeated Cena at
Money in the Bank and took him down again one month
later at SummerSlam. Punk even knows how Cena typically
operates inside the confines of Hell in a Cell, having
battled him and Alberto Del Rio in a Triple Threat
Match at Hell in a Cell 2011. With a devious mastermind
like Paul Heyman giving Punk advice from outside the
Cell, conquering Cena might even be easier than those
past showdowns.
It's
also apparent what Cena wants: the WWE Championship.
Ryback, on the other hand, might not care about the
title more than he cares about the destruction of
his opponents. Is Punk ready to be trapped inside
a steel structure with an unpredictable wrecking machine?
Yeah, facing Cena definitely feels like the much safer
alternative.
For
several weeks, Punk has been clamoring for respect
ad nauseam. He's tried to demand it with his words
and even beat it out of WWE Legends like Bret "Hit
Man" Hart and Mick Foley. But if Punk really
wants to prove himself worthy of everyone's respect,
how about accomplishing something no other Superstar
has been remotely able to do? Yes, we're talking about
being the first to defeat Ryback.
Getting
inside Hell in a Cell with the 6-foot-3, nearly 300-pound
juggernaut is a ridiculously scary proposition, but
if Punk could break Ryback's food chain, he'd have
a victory that would silence the doubters and possibly
make his WWE Championship reign be viewed as one of
the very best of all time. There may not ever be a
greater proving ground match for The Straight Edge
Superstar than the one that stands in front of him
right now.
Simply
put, Ryback could be the Andre the Giant to Punk's
Hulk Hogan. (Credit: WWE)

Legends Of WrestleMania

Very
rarely has an athlete entered the ring who can walk
the walk and talk the talk immediately. John Cena
is one of those athletes. Using an uncanny ability
to perform in the ring and at the microphone in his
own unique way, Cena spent his rookie year in WWE
challenging the best in the business for in-ring supremacy.
A
former football star at Springfield College, Cena
spent his college career developing two activities
that would prove to define himtraining and rapping.
Now he is doing both in front of millions on a weekly
basis and is one of the most popular young Superstars
on SmackDown!
Cena
claims to already be a legend. While that issue may
be in doubt, there is no denying that he has the talent
to be a legend one day. He has faced some of the very
best to ever compete in WWE and has held his own.
And like most legends, Cena used the biggest possible
stage to have one of the greatest moments of his career
when he defeated the Big Show at WrestleMania XX to
earn his first Championship -- the United States Championship!

John
Cena: The busiest Superstar in sports-entertainment
- September 30, 2006
By Kara A. Medalis
(Credit: WWE)
WWE Champion John Cena just might be the busiest man
in sports-entertainment. Tonight, he'll guest star
on an episode of FOX's MADtv. That's just one of his
many appearances building toward Oct. 13, the nationwide
opening of the movie he stars in, WWE Films' The Marine.
Cena
recently shot the cover of the November FLEX magazine;
he toughed out boot camp with the U.S. Marines at
Parris Island, S.C.; he just attended Mr. Olympia
bodybuilding competition in Las Vegas; and he filmed
the MADtv episode, which airs tonight at 11 ET. But
on Oct. 3, Cena will kick it into overdrive at the
world premiere of The Marine at U.S. Marine Corps
Base Camp Pendleton in southern California.
"My
schedule means a lot less sleep, a few more cups of
coffee and a whole lot of good times," Cena told
WWE.com.
From
September to October, Cena has three military base
visits in his plans Tinker Air Force Base in
Oklahoma City; Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.; and
Scott Air Force Base in St. Louis.
"I'm
looking forward to all of these upcoming events, especially
those with the Marines," Cena said.
After
the world premiere on Oct. 3, Cena's schedule certainly
doesn't slow down. Before the movie opens nationwide
on Oct. 13, the WWE Champion will do shoots for People
magazine and USA Today newspaper, and will be featured
in a USA Weekend story on Oct. 8. He'll walk the red
carpet at VH1's Hip Hop Honors at the Hammerstein
Ballroom in New York City on Oct. 7, and appear on
the morning talk show Live with Regis and Kelly on
Oct. 9 and on VH1's Totally '80s the same week. He'll
tape segments for MTV's The Ten and M2's Rock Countdown,
and will embark on a satellite media tour and a national
radio press tour. Whew! And that's just covering a
portion of the WWE Champion's schedule. Cena insists
on keeping a whirlwind pace to promote The Marine,
WWE and WWE Films. But even with his busy schedule,
Cena never fails to neglect his No. 1 priority
defending the WWE Championship.
"I
think the success of The Marine is an integral part
of launching WWE Films as a brand. If WWE Films does
well, WWE does better it all works in conjunction
with everything. If more people who don't know what
WWE is about watch The Marine and decide to tune into
RAW, we get a bigger audience. I said this five years
ago when I started we have the best show on
earth, and I want everyone to know about it, and The
Marine is a way for everyone to know about it,"
Cena said.
"I've
done everything from Parris Island to train with the
United States Marine Corps, to shooting the cover
of FLEX magazine, to Entertainment Tonight, MADtv,
VH1 basically just trying to get the word of
The Marine out there."
