Each
quarter, Hitwise awards the 10 most popular websites
across each of the 160+ Hitwise categories, and
annually, the top 10 searched for brand terms
overall. Each winner is presented with a Hitwise
Top 10 award, which includes tools to help you
promote your site as a Hitwise Top 10 Award winner.
Winners are notified by email at the close of
every quarter.
Companies
are not required to be a Hitwise client to qualify
for the Hitwise Top 10 Award program. Top 10 Website
Awards are based on popularity according to the
percentage of user visits a website receives compared
to other sites in their category during a specific
period. The Top 10 Searched for Brand Awards are
based on the volume of searches for a specific
term during a given period as well.

smh.com.au
has been named the number one print media website
in Australia at the Hitwise Online Performance
awards.
The
Hitwise annual award ceremony honours websites
that have generated the most traffic in their
sector and the findings are based on the number
of visits logged by the media measurement company.
According
to Hitwise, smh.com.au was the most visited website
in the print media category based on the 2.75m
Australian internet users it monitored last year.
Two
other news/media categories were highlighted during
the ceremony: an IT media category scooped up
by whirlpool.com.au, and a communities/directories/guide
category, awarded to ourbrisbane.com.
James
Borg, Asia Pacific marketing manager said: "The
awards are based on the number of visits to the
sites. We measure every site that Australians
visit and rank them up against one another on
a daily basis. Using this data we have been able
to come up with an annual award."
Hitwise
is an Australian company headquartered in New
York with offices worldwide and it monitors traffic
through ISP data partnerships and opt-in panels.
