NSW PITCH ‘08 – CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

Wednesday, 21 May 2008

Applications are now called for NSW Pitch '08, a major event designed to connect innovative business ventures with development capital as part of Small Business September, and the chance to win prizes to the value of over $60,000.

NSW Pitch '08, to be delivered by the Australian Small Scale Offerings Board Limited (ASSOB) and the NSW Department of State of Regional Development (DSRD), offers businesses and projects the chance to gain valuable experience and exposure from pitching a business concept to industry experts and investors.

NSW Minister for Small Business, Joe Tripodi, encouraged innovative businesses in NSW to seek recognition for their business idea through NSW Pitch '08.

"Pitch 08 gives entrepreneurial small business owners the rare chance to pitch directly to potential investors," Minister Tripodi said.

"A good idea is nothing without backing. I encourage any small business owner who is ready to make their mark to enter this exciting competition."

ASSOB's Managing Director Brookes McTavish said NSW Pitch '08 will showcase quality projects and business propositions that need investment capital to achieve their full potential.

"ASSOB has had great success bridging the gap between investors and unlisted companies by providing a single platform where they can assess and invest in businesses with high-growth potential," Ms McTavish said.

"In 2007, 77% of companies with investment offers listed on ASSOB raised capital within 3 months. NSW Pitch '08 offers entrepreneurs valuable resources, networks and relationships through ASSOB and the NSW Government as well as rare exposure to the investing community," she said.

The winning business will receive a listing on the Australian Small Scale Offerings Board, valued at $40,000 (based on an average $500,000 capital raising), with the runner-up prize valued at $11,000 and the third prize valued at $10,000. A wildcard prize will be awarded by the Enterprise Workshop valued at $2000.

All 10 short-listed businesses will receive business mentoring through ASSOB as well as access to presentation, pitch training, audio-visual resources and a free consultation with Davies Colliers Cave to assess their intellectual property requirements.

NSW Pitch '08 will take place at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney on Saturday, 6 September, 2008. The application deadline is Monday, 7 July, 2008 and applicants and event attendees can register online at www.pitch08.com.au.
