The
Herald's website, smh.com.au, has regained its
mantle as the top news destination on the internet
for Australians, knocking the PBL Media portal
ninemsn into second place for the first time since
July last year.
The
Nielsen//NetRatings data for February shows that
smh.com.au defeated ninemsn for the first time
in all three key measures - monthly domestic unique
browsers (UBs), page impressions and average daily
unique browsers - in the news and weather category.
According
to the internet industry ratings, smh.com.au attracted
388,129 average daily UBs, 4.2 million monthly
UBs and a total of 140 million page views in February.
Ninemsn
had 366,047 daily UBs, 3.8 million monthly UBs
and 49 million page views last month.
Last
July ninemsn for the first time conceded first
place to smh.com.au in monthly domestic unique
browsers.
However,
when looking at average daily unique browsers,
ninemsn was still ahead of smh.com.au then, according
to Nielsen//NetRatings. It was only in the monthly
figures, the preferred method for media owners
and analysts, that smh.com.au claimed the top
news site spot.
