Press Release

Air New Zealand wins Placemakers V8 Supercar contract

17 February 2006

Air New Zealand has won the rights to transport all teams and drivers for the upcoming PlaceMakers V8 Supercar round in Auckland.

It involves transporting up to 400 drivers, team support and officials from Australia and return for the second round of the V8 Supercar Championship at Pukekohe Park Raceway on 20 to 23 April.

It is the first time Air New Zealand has won the contract with significant value for the company and is initially for two years with the right of renewal. The New Zealand round of the V8 Supercar Championship will remain at Pukekohe for two years with the promoters looking for a new venue from 2008.

The company will also handle all the logistical arrangements for the teams.

"We're very pleased to win this contract," said Roger Poulton, Air New Zealand's General Manager of New Zealand and Pacific Island Sales. "This is a high profile national event with demanding logistical challenges, and Air New Zealand is proud to be chosen to assist in such a crucial role."

PlaceMakers V8 Supercar promoter Dean Calvert of Capital Sports Marketing said he was delighted to sign a deal with Air New Zealand.

"It is a sizeable piece of business and an excellent opportunity which needed to stack up financially for both parties," Mr Calvert said. "The PlaceMakers V8 Supercars, which is the only round of the championship to be staged in this country, is now promoted by a New Zealand company.

"I am pleased to be able to strike a deal with our own national carrier. Where possible we are offering all of our business to New Zealand companies for what is a major event."
