Australia
Barnardos
is Australia's leading children's charity providing
services which successfully help prevent and reverse
the effects of abuse, neglect and homelessness on
children and young people.
History
The
history of Barnardos Australia began with the first
migration of children from the UK in 1921. Barnardos
Australia takes its values and direction from the
work of its founder, Dr Thomas Barnardo, whose life
is outlined. The work of Barnardos Australia deals
particularly with the prevention of abuse and entry
into care. Barnardos operates childrens family
centres, permanency programs for 'out-of-home' care,
adolescent services and advocacy work. The Barnardos
'family' of agencies in United Kingdom, Ireland, New
Zealand and Australia have adapted to local conditions.
Incorporated in Australia in 1995, Barnardos Australia
maintains links to Barnardos international family.

“We’re
looking for a role model not a super model.”
Reflecting
class, beauty, intelligence, grace and benevolence,
Director of Adpro Management, and Marketing and
Sponsorship Director of Miss Teen Australia, Grant
Dwyer, has coined the phrase to portray a young
woman who represents the quintessential Miss Teen
Australia.
Thriving
in its fifth consecutive year, Miss Teen Australia
is the embodiment of today’s healthy, attractive,
and driven young woman, who also epitomises a
philanthropic nature through charity-focussed
fundraising, in particular, Barnardos Children’s
Charity.
Responsible
for the likes of former Miss Teen Australia winners
from 2004 to 2006 – Lauryn Eagle, Kyra Roberton
and Ashleigh Seymour, respectively, Grant has
taken a holistic approach to nurturing and cultivating
the aesthetic, emotional and altruistic development
of ambitious young Australian women.
As
proposed by Mr Dwyer, Miss Teen Australia is living
up to its mantra’s expectations –
attracting today’s new breed of young Australian
women who realise the potential opportunities
for career development as well as personal growth
and achievements that can stem from this competition.
Rather than focusing purely on the aesthetic aspect
of the event, the competition spotlights the overall
package of qualities, taking a holistic approach,
which constitutes a positive role model and productive
member of the community.
Key
sponsors include: Secrets Shhh jewellery, Italia
Motori – Ferrari / Maserati, Seafolly Swimwear

Miss Teen Australia and Cheerleader for the Parramatta
Eels, Ashleigh Seymour, will host and accompany children
from Barnardos Australia to the Parramatta Eels' first
home game for 2007. The game will be held at Parramatta
Stadium on Friday March 30th and the attendance by
children from Barnardos is made possible thanks to
the generous in-kind support of Westbus and the Pirtek
Parramatta Eels.
"Each
child will have the opportunity to meet the players
and Eels Cheerleaders prior to the game," Ashleigh
said. Her message is one of optimism, self-esteem
and hope in today's society. "I am very passionate
about Australian children and young people, and I
want to assist in providing support and hope for children
who are innocent victims of desperate and dire situations."
Developing
a positive personality and depth of character was
a message Seymour wanted the youth to hear. Bill Petch,
Marketing Manager for Barnardos, says "Ashleigh
is an inspirational role model for other teenagers.
Her positive social conscience is so important in
today's society and makes her involvement with Barnardos
welcome.'
"Many
of the children Barnardos assists are amongst our
community's most disadvantaged, "Mr Petch continued,
"So it is wonderful to see a local business like
Westbus, joining forces with local sporting teams
like the Eels, to give these kids such a unique and
exciting experience. It shows what great community
spirit there is in the local area and how willing
people are to reach out and lend a helping hand."
Barnardos
provides comprehensive support to the neglected children
of our community. With a holistic, results-oriented
approach Barnardos makes no assumptions about the
children in their care and uses no guesswork when
directing thousands of young and vulnerable lives
to a more positive and promising future. To find out
