Sky News host Alan Jones says he has “never denied the severity of coronavirus” but has merely sought to “dismantle alarmism”.

“I have to say this again because every attempt is being made to cancel people like me,” he said.

“I am one of the few people in this country who has stuck to the Prime Minister’s statement of March 15 last year – without the alarmism, and it’s still borne out by the statistics today, no matter how many alarmist headlines you read.”

The Prime Minister on March 15 in 2020 said COVID-19 “is a more severe condition than the flu, but for the vast majority – around eight in ten is our advice – it will be a mild illness and it will pass”.

Mr Jones said he is not “undermining the seriousness of a virus which has killed 932 people in Australia”.

“But I have a responsibility to tell you the facts and not to alarm you.”
