Developing news story

"The current scenario of a proposed / forecast WWE Crown Jewel event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is quite different from a previous Sgt Slaughter vs Hulk Hogan staged event on American soil, storyline or not. The allegations against Saudi Arabia re journalist Jamal Khasshoggi the visiting the Saudi consulate in Turkey are deadly serious. There is no storyline here, this is read" - Greg Tingle

Saudi Arabia 'Crown Jewel' event in jeopardy for moment, as well as it should be

WWE political ties not serving business or image well at this particular time; WWE connections to President Donald Trump, Linda McMahon in Trump Administration, 'Kane' (Glen Jacobs Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee), Jerry 'The King' Lawler spotted at Donald Trump rally

Glenn Jacobs’ local Knox News asked for confirmation from the Republican mayor as to whether he will still participate in Crown Jewel. Jacobs’ representative, Rob Link, confirmed that Kane still plans on wrestling at the event and offered the following, “Mayor Jacobs won’t speculate on Mr. Khashoggi’s disappearance; however, he and his family are in the mayor’s thoughts and prayers.”

WWE may have to rethink certain aspects of WWE global strategy; Australia, Canada, Italy, Japan and even China may be much less political minefields to navigate; China connection might help build a bridge in U.S - American relationship

Is it too late for WWE to change venue and city of WWE Crown Jewel to both satisfiy Saudi government contract and reduce political heat?; WWE may do well to renegotiate for a win - win so they can attempt to start fresh with Saudi Sports Authority again

Ronda Rousey speaks to TMZ Sports about UFC.

“I understand promoting fights and having to sell them,” said Rousey. “I really do. I get it. But I don’t think people have to get arrested in order to do that. I think I’ve been able to prove that you can make a fight exciting and make people really wanna see it without crossing any legal lines.

“But I’m glad it was a great match. I’m sorry it’s kind of soured by the aftermath. Their performances aren’t going to get enough credit because of what happened and I really hope it doesn’t become an ongoing trend. I want people to feel safe bringing their kids to fights.”

"There’s too much preferential treatment for high-profile fighters".

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut) on WWE - Saudi Arabia event

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut) has offered commentary with some advice of his own regarding WWE’s decision to partner with the Saudi Arabian government for the upcoming Crown Jewel pay-per-view.

WWE’s Crown Jewel marks the company’s return to Saudi Arabia and is still set to take place on November 2nd, despite reports indicating that Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi may have been assassinated by the Saudi regime, a repeated violator of human rights.

Blumenthal joins a chorus of senators from both sides of the American political spectrum in advising the WWE to re-think its relations with Saudi Arabia in the wake of the Khashoggi disappearance.

Blumenthal told WCBS News Radio 820,

“All major private interests should review and relook their relationship with the Saudi Kingdom in light of its continuing pattern of abuse of civil rights and civil liberties, contempt for the rule of law, and bombing in Yemen using the United States military equipment and possible intelligence. I would hope that WWE will recognize on its own a conscience and conviction if there is proof that Saudi officials approved and ordered this kind of killing, and I would lean first on the United States government to do its duty so that it can lead private interests like WWE, and the first place to look is to the United States of America.”

The WWE has only issued the following statement in response to Khashoggi’s likely murder,

“We are currently monitoring the situation.”

Wrestling agents discuss situation via social media

Mike Mooneyham Facebook:

Coming this weekend in The Post and Courier: Shawn Michaels returns to ring ... but in Saudi Arabia?

Greg Tingle:

The Saudi - Turkey situation is a developing significant news story Mike. The words being used alot in regards to the potential / forecast Crown Jewel is "pause" and "monitor the situation". WWE has those strong ties to the Trump administration, so that adds another element re Linda McMahon, Glenn (Kane) etc. This may be the most hazardous time in WWE history from a political and high stakes business and image game, steroid scandal included. Most definitely a developing news story. All parties need to be cautious as far as WWE business decisions with potential political repercussions. I'm sure you will be fair and balanced in coverage on it Mike, as will I. Keep up the great work. Cheers. Greg Tingle

Greg Tingle:

"The cost of doing business" is apt. It's now a worldwide news story, and not just "wrestling news" or "political news"... its both together, and appears to be on the build. Now Donald Trump has been quoted and published, which is going to see the story continuing to build for quite some time, and the clock is ticking on the proposed WWE Crown Jewel, as part of the multi-million dollar deal they have with the Sports Authority. And, news media reports that evidence is building about what happened to the journalist. None of this looks good. The simple words Trump uses... It looks bad. *it is bad. WWE powers that be have a massive decision to make soon. Change of venue / country perhaps, if at all possible. Get the contract altered for this upcoming event. Tough call.
