The
estranged wife of slain Melbourne underworld figure
Lewis Moran has signed a contract with celebrity
agent Harry M Miller and plans to write a book
detailing her notorious family's life.
Judy
Moran today said that she decided to write a book
after her husband was shot dead in a pokies club
while enjoying a beer and a bet just 12 days ago.
"I
decided I wanted to write a book the moment I
found out Lewis was dead," she said. "I
have lost two sons, two husbands and two very
dear friends and I am finding it very hard to
cope with it all.
"My
solicitor approached Mr Miller about signing a
contract and I met him in Sydney on the weekend.
"It
was a very harrowing 24 hours but the contract
was signed."
Mrs
Moran, who said she was receiving therapy in a
bid to come to terms with the loss of her family
members, wanted to clear her estranged partner's
name.
Moran,
58, was facing drug charges when he was gunned
down at his favourite watering hole, the Brunswick
Club.
"Lewis
and I were both worried about his safety but he
didn't care, he was sick and tired of it all,"
she said.
"I
was horrified when I found out he'd been murdered
about three minutes after it happened.
"But
I am outraged that my family has been portrayed
in the way they have.
"They
were good people, not bad people, but they keep
calling Lewis a drug baron -- which is not true.
"I
am doing this for my grandchildren as a legacy
to their grandfather."
Mrs
Moran also hit back at media reports today that
she was only telling her story to cash in on Melbourne's
gangland war.
"This
has nothing to do with making money and I am not
trying to cash in on anything," she said.
"I
am doing this not only for my grandchildren but
as a form of therapy for myself to try and deal
with what has happened."
Mrs
Moran's career criminal sons Jason and Mark Moran
were both shot dead in the underworld war.
Her
close friend Graham "The Munster" Kinniburgh
was also slain in the bitter feud.
Her
former husband Les Cole was killed in the Sydney
drug-related gangland wars of the 1980s.
"I
am lucky I have a lot of friends who are supporting
me because I have lost so many, so many,"
she said.
Jason
Moran's two children, who watched as their father
was shot while sitting in a van watching a junior
football clinic, were also in therapy.
"All
the kids are in therapy and Jason's kids are finding
it hard," Mrs Moran said.
"It's
a terrible situation. What do you say to them?
How do you explain?
"At
least if I write a book it will be something for
them, the truth."
Under
Victorian law, it is an offence for a person to
profit from writing or selling a story about actions
for which they had been convicted.
But
Mrs Moran is exempt as she has never been convicted
or charged in relation to her family's alleged
activities.
Mrs
Moran said she had not yet made any plans for
the future, but had not ruled out leaving Melbourne
and starting a new life somewhere else.
